—The Figurehead

A North African who built to endure

Our emblem takes its inspiration from Septimius Severus, born in AD 145 in Lepcis Magna, on the coast of present-day Libya. He rose to rule Rome as emperor from AD 193 until his death at Eboracum, Roman York, in AD 211.

His reign left monuments that still stand: the Arch of Septimius Severus in the Roman Forum and the great Severan forum and basilica of his home city. We admire that ambition and that permanence. The bust is our own artwork, an homage rather than a portrait, a reminder that what we build should outlast the moment it was made for.
